Here is the Day 1 Video:
Synopsis:
In this video, we look at the story of Joseph and Pharaoh from Genesis 41. (Read it here). Whether you grew up in church or not is irrelevant. We are just pulling 7 key ideas out of this story!
Idea 1: Be like Pharaoh!
Wait, isn’t Joseph the hero of this story? Yes, and studying his life is a great idea. But Pharaoh received the warning dream (he got the sign). He did not brush it off. He chose to seek out understanding and do something about the early warning he received! How many people never do that these days?
Idea 2: Listen to the right voices (or sources).
There are so many conflicting voices to listen to. With a degree in Public Relations, I have a bit of an inside understanding of how our mainstream news sources pick and choose what news to highlight based on their moral compasses (though we may not agree with their sense of ethics). Pharoah had literal professional magicians and dream tellers who were supposed to be able to interpret the signs! But how many times do professionals fail us, whether that is a financial planner who failed to see a drop in stocks or a doctor who had a limited understanding of how to address our body’s symptoms? Sometimes we need a different source, just like how Pharoah used his discernment and chose to rely on a young foreign prisoner’s Godly interpretation of the signs.
Idea 3: Get specific about what you are preparing for!
I go through a few examples in the video. You can’t prepare for everything all at once. Pick the top three scenarios you want to prepare for first.
Idea 4: Look for multiple signs.
Pharoah had two dreams that were telling him the same thing. Similarly, look for multiple signs telling you what your top three priorities for preparation may be. This could be past recent weather, recent news stories, what is getting priciest fastest in the store, or something that is happening in a nearby region that could easily happen where you live too.
Idea 5: Determine your next steps.
Write down what specific action steps you need to take to get the ball rolling on the three priorities you’ve previously listed. Don’t make this too complex. You can flesh it out later. Try to set them up as SMART goals (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and timely). Give yourself a timeline for when you want to complete your steps by!
Idea 6: Find a friend to do this with!
This is akin to having an accountability partner. And I personally believe it helps for it to be someone in addition to your spouse. Yes, talk with your spouse. But having a friend will help all the more! Please consider inviting them to our Suburban Prepper Moms Facebook group or sending them the Challenge sign up link! Just like Pharoah needed to set Joseph up to oversee the plan, it’s hard to do it all by ourselves.
Idea 7: Leave a Legacy.
Did you know that because of Joseph and Pharoah’s actions, at least two entire nations were saved? Egypt thrived through the period of lack, and neighbouring peoples like Joseph’s family (who would become the nation of Israel) were cared for too! Do not despise small beginnings. What you do today could have a wonderful impact on your children and surrounding community. Who do you want to leave a legacy for?
